Niklas Ekvall appointed new CEO of AP4

The Board of the Fourth Swedish National Pension Fund (AP4) has appointed Niklas Ekvall as the new CEO of AP4.

Niklas Ekvall has extensive experience from managing both organizations and specialists in the financial sector and especially within asset management.  He has held leading positions at, among others, Nordea, Carnegie and AP3 and has substantial experience of managing financial risks. Niklas has a solid academic background and has been active at the Stockholm School of Economics.

Niklas Ekvall will replace Mats Andersson as CEO of AP4 as of October 1, 2016. After ten years as AP4’s CEO, Mats Andersson will leave his position on July 12. Per Colleen, Head of Equities at AP4, will act as interim CEO until Niklas Ekvall assumes the position.

- The AP-Funds have one of the most important and exciting roles in the Swedish financial sector. I am really proud to be given this opportunity to be part of AP4 and to further develop an organization that has been so successful in managing capital, says Niklas Ekvall, the newly appointed CEO of AP4.

- We feel privileged to have recruited a person like Niklas Ekvall with such experience and capacity as the CEO to the Fourth AP Fund, says Sarah McPhee AP4’s Chairwoman. Niklas has a vast analytical capability and he is a strong leader within the financial sector. Niklas has extensive experience from both asset management and of the AP-Funds and he is also interested and engaged in societal issues. We are very happy that Niklas will join us at AP4.

- I also want to thank Mats Andersson for his outstanding contribution to both the returns created to the pension system and for his work, internationally and in Sweden, advocating the importance of including a long-term focus on sustainability issues within investments, concludes Sarah McPhee.
